Located in Wichita, Kansas Delano has a mixed commercial and residential area on the west side of the Arkansas River. The neighborhood is the home of Friends University, Sedgwick County science museum, Riverfront Stadium, and Exploration Place. Just west of downtown Wichita is the eclectic business district filled with different shops, attractions, and restaurants.
Located at the end of the famous Chisholm Trail, Delano was a major shipping center for cattle. Thousands were brought through the area and across the river to the railroad yards. Many of the cowboys who drove chose to take a rest from the trails of Delano where there was no law enforcement but many brothels and saloons. Gunfights weren’t unusual to break out and so many cowboys chose to wash off the trail dust in the river.
Over the years of Delano’s wild past faded but it remains in the form of the clock tower that stands on the roundabout at Sycamore and Douglas.

Lawrence-Dumont Stadium is the home of the Wichita Wingnuts which is a great place to take your kids to a basketball game and is located on Sycamore, just south of the roundabout. You may prefer to be in the action or like to go to a great place to wear out the kids try ice skating at The Wichita Ice Center. Wichita’s museums are on the river and located nearby Botanica, Exploration Place, the Mid-American All-Indian Center, and Cowtown.
